Description

Signed and inscribed by Brennan to Edgar Selwyn, dated October 31, 1941. Edgar Selwyn (October 20, 1875 – February 13, 1944) was an American actor, playwright, director, and Broadway producer. A leading presence in American theatre and film during the first half of the twentieth century, he partnered with his brother, Archibald Selwyn, to establish a theatrical production company and was associated with the ownership of several Selwyn Theatres across the United States. Expanding his career from the stage to the emerging motion-picture industry, he directed a film that earned Helen Hayes an Academy Award for Best Actress. In 1916, Selwyn was also a co-founder of Goldwyn Pictures.
