Description

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. By Tom Stoppard. London: Faber & Faber, 1967. First edition. Dust jacket unclipped. Very Good, with only subtle soiling of jacket which is noticeable at white rear panel, some faint edge wear and tiny chip at head. Royal blue boards, hint of a shadow ring at front cover.

A beautiful example of the author’s best-known work. The play opened August 26, 1966 in Edinburgh and premiered in the U.S. on October 16, 1967. The titular characters derive from Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Sir Tom Stoppard (July 3, 1937 – present) is a British screenwriter and playwright, who was born in Czechoslovakia. He also writes for film, radio, stage, and television. Stoppard was knighted in 1997 by Queen Elizabeth II for his contributions to the theatre.
