First edition of this work in which Pauli Iouii [Paolo Giovio] describes his famous collection of portraits of men (and women) illustrious preserved in his villa in Como and considered the richest of the time, among which are: Christopher Columbus, Hernan Cortes, Mattia Corvino, Sigismund of Poland, Muhammad II, Saladinus, They make the Magnificent lonely, the King of Persians Hysmael Sophus, King Muleasses Tunetanus, Francis I of France, Henry VIII of England, Alexander the Great, Cesare Borgia, Castruccio Castracani, Isabella of Aragon, Uberti flour, Francesco Gonzaga and Francesco Sforza, Gattamelata, etc., and various Medici (Alessandro, Ippolito, Giuliano, Pietro etc.), including Cosimo de ‘Medici, to whom the preface by Torrentino is addressed. The layout of Torrentino is splendid, which makes the leg of a large “Q”. Loss at verso title page approximately 1.5 x 3 inch midway, and 1.5 x 5 at bottom.
