First printing in original Dutch, one of 1500 copies printed in June 1947. Original paper covered boards, terracotta stamped front. Restoration at spine. Custom cloth and leather slipcase. Title translates to The Secret Annex, referring to the hiding building on the Prinsengracht canal in Amsterdam. Lacking jacket. Rubbing and soiling around edges, light tanning of block.

The true first edition of Anne Frank’s diary. After it was initially published, it was translated and published in over 60 languages. The work is still one of the most widely read books in the world. “Anne Frank’s diary is too tenderly intimate a book to be frozen with the label ‘classic,’ and yet no lesser designation serves. There is anguish in the thought of how much creative power, how much sheer beauty of living, was cut off through genocide. But through her diary Anne goes on living” (Books of the Century, 180, 183). When it was published in English, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt noted that it was one of the wisest and most moving commentaries on war.
